Even If

“Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.” — Habakkuk 3:17–19

Faith doesn’t mean I’m not scared. I’ve had moments when my heart was racing, my chest felt tight, and everything in me felt unsettled.

Habakkuk describes it the same way, his body trembling, his lips quivering. He didn’t pretend to be fearless. I don’t have to hide what I’m feeling from God. I can bring everything to Him exactly as it is, the fear, the questions, the uncertainty.

I’m learning to do what Habakkuk did, to stop and remember who God is. Things may feel uncertain, but God hasn’t changed.

When everything around me feels shaky, He is still steady. Even if things don’t turn out how I hoped, if the waiting takes longer than I want, even when I don’t see what God is doing, I can still trust Him. Though I may not understand what He’s doing, He is still in control.

“Though the fig tree does not bud…”

God is my strength, and He will carry me through. Faith can look like this, being afraid and trusting God anyway. Even when everything around you changes, you can still trust Him.

Questions for Reflection

What fears or uncertainties have been weighing on your heart lately?

Have you ever felt like you needed to appear strong instead of honestly bringing your fears to God?

What does Habakkuk’s example teach you about trusting God even when life feels uncertain?

Is there an area of your life where God is asking you to say, “Yet I will rejoice in the Lord”?

How can you choose to remember God’s faithfulness today instead of focusing on your fears?

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank You that I don’t have to pretend to be fearless when I come to You. You already know my heart, my fears, and every uncertainty I carry. Help me bring all of it to You instead of trying to carry it alone.

You are faithful, trustworthy, and in control even when I can’t see what You’re doing.

Teach me to have the kind of faith Habakkuk had, a faith that chooses to trust You anyway. Help me say,

“Yet I will rejoice in the Lord,”

even when the answers haven’t come, the waiting feels long, or life doesn’t look the way I hoped.

In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
